We are thrilled to introduce the moove fitness program to the
families of Rumson recreation for the upcoming Fall 2020 season. Below is a
little detail about moove, how the program works and why your child should
moove this fall!
What is moove?
moove originated amidst the COVID-19 pandemic as an online, group
workout platform to, simply put, keep people "mooving" while stuck at home.
What originally started as a group of friends motivating one another, has quickly
grown into a coast-to-coast community of fit-friends that enjoy everything from
bike riding to boogie boarding, and so much more!
How does moove work?
Each moove rec team will consist of a coach (assistant coaches are
welcome too!) and approximately 10 kids ("moovers"). Every week, two teams go
head-to-head with the goal of accumulating the most points for moovements
during that week based on a pre-determined point system that will be released
prior to the start of the season (think: walking, biking, swimming, soccer,
etc.) The season will run for 6 weeks: 4 weeks of regular season followed by
two weeks of single-elimination playoffs; the weekly competition runs Monday
thru Saturday. The mooove team will email mid-week recaps reviewing the week's
moovements and points earned thus far (and potentially highlight a special
moover) and an end-of-week email summarizing the prior week's results. Your child's
coach will be your primary point of contact, responsible for encouragement, fit
tips, and entering daily points for their team, with an option to provide
daily/weekly workout programs and strategies.
Where can I moove?
ANYWHERE! From running sneaks to your own two feet, you can moove
in just about any way you want. Skate, swim, stroll or surf (and so many other exercises!),
you can earn points in a variety of different ways making the moove program
attainable for everyone, no special equipment needed and all levels of fitness
are encouraged.
Why is the moove program beneficial for your
child?
- Teamwork.
With many team sports and leagues being cancelled, this will give children the
opportunity to be a part of a team again.
- Accountability.
Each team goes further when everyone puts in the work. Knowing the team is
counting on your child might be just the motivation they need to drop the
screen and moove for the team.
- Honesty.
The moove program is currently scored on an honor system. But we do encourage
moovers to track as many of their moovements as possible via Apple Watch,
Fitbit or a fitness tracking app/device. Don't report anything to your coach
that doesn't feel like the right moove!
- Motivation for the Whole Family.
Fitness is one of the healthiest habits that families can develop... why not do
it together? Family time + fitness time = sounds like a win/win before the
competition even starts!
- Did you know?
According to the CDC, children and adolescents ages 6 through 17 years should
do 60 minutes (1 hour) or more of moderate-to-vigorous intensity physical
activity each day, including daily aerobic - and activities that strengthen
bones (like running or jumping) - 3 days each week, and that build muscles
(like climbing or doing push-ups) - 3 days each week.
